First off, my money says that the installation is not a problem....I just had an Alpine system intalled by electrical contractors who build/install stereos in thier free time.
We got the system in and I turned it on and it was thumpin' like hell for about 5 minutes......with the engine off. Now, the battery is only a few hours old, but that much power coming off it doesn't surprise me that it killed the battery. Being brand new, the battery took a charge just fine, but while the car is running, the engine is idling at about 800 or 900 rpms and the 'Volts' idiot light is staying on. Maybe the alternator just **** the bed? TIA
