Video from camcorder to computer

I am trying to make a DVD of my videos on my camcorder and am having a little bit of trouble. The software i got with the dvd burner is Nero 6 and when i try capture the video the quality is not very good. The fastest frame rate is 20, i tried windows movie maker and the max frame rate is 30 and is still jumpy and when it goes to the bigger screen it doesn't look worth crap. What software do you guys use. I am trying to use my Sony handycam Hi-8 through the USB cable.

I connect via a firewire cable and use Imovie but it sounds like you are on a PC whereas I use a Mac.

Quality is top notch......but......I doubt that helps.
