Valve Springs

Hi,

Just got an 87T. Engine has 120k on it and I am gearing up for a serious spring cleaning, and tune-up. I have seen people mention that the valve springs on these cars need replaced on high mileage engines. Feedback appreciated.

Buy a set of Comp Cams 980 springs, Felpro Viton Valve stem seals, Felpro 1600 valve cover gaskets, Kirban tool and an old rocker arm.
You also need to see if the old plastic timing gear is still on it. If so it's gotta go with that kind of mileage on it.

The orignal valve springs were barely addequate from the factory, and with that kind of mileage they should be changed. As stated CC980 seem to be what everyone uses, and in fact I just changed mine to those and they seem to work great. People usually don't reuse the stock cups, just the CC980's.
Where are you a aircraft mechanic at? I've got my A&P, but I've been a Firefighter for the last 5 years.:)
