DRIFT SESSION, LLC. ANNOUNCES THE 2005 “ULTIMATE STREETCAR CHALLENGE”
Honolulu, Hawaii. August 26, 2005 —
On October 22 and 23, 2005 the Drift Session will be hosting the first ever ULTIMATE STREETCAR CHALLENGE automotive competition in the State of Hawaii. The ULTIMATE STREETCAR CHALLENGE is a veritable decathlon of events designed to test the metal of the fastest, sexiest, and most exciting exotic supercars and highly-modified import and domestic vehicles in Hawaii. Events will take place in various spots around the Honolulu area and at Hawaii Motorsports Center. At the end of the 2-day competition, a single vehicle will be crowned as Hawaii’s ULTIMATE STREETCAR.
During this 2-day competition, competing vehicles will be judged in the following categories:

1. Car Show – overall sex appeal of the vehicle and completeness of image.
2. Fuel Economy – fuel consumption to be measured during escorted cross-island cruise.
3. Daily Driveability – vehicles judged on their ease of use in everyday situations.
4. Vehicle Comfort – vehicles judged on ride quality and interior comforts.
5. Zero to 60 Acceleration – timed measurement of vehicular acceleration.
6. Quarter-Mile Drag Race Time – testing the vehicles ability to put its horsepower to use.
7. Zero to 100 to Zero – acceleration to top speeds and braking distance used.
8. Slalom – timed test to determine vehicle agility.
9. Sustained Lateral G’s – designed to test the vehicle’s resistance to cornering forces.
10. Gross Display of Horsepower – burnouts, donuts, etc. Anything goes.

Unlike traditional motorsports competitions and car shows, the ULTIMATE STREETCAR CHALLENGE takes into account performance as well as style and applicability. During this competition, we’ll be looking for the best all around vehicles that can both show & go.
Basic guidelines of this competition require that all participating vehicles must have current license, registration, and insurance. All vehicles must also retain the basic elements of a street car and be ‘ready to run’ (no popping the hood, swapping parts, etc. between tests). Also, all vehicles must be running on standard pump gas and be rolling on DOT approved street tires.
If you are interested in entering your vehicle (or one of your customer’s vehicles) in the ULTIMATE STREETCAR CHALLENGE, please fax us at (808) 673-1602 or email info@driftsession.com to submit your contact information. Official competition handbooks will be distributed shortly. Entry fee is $150 per vehicle and the judging panel reserves the right to approve or deny entry for any vehicle. A maximum of 25 vehicles with a limit of 2 identical make / model vehicles will be accepted for this competition so please be sure to enter early.
Extensive media coverage for this event and the winning ULTIMATE STREETCAR have already been secured. Get those entries to us today! Good luck!

Anyone down for this???

I bolded what the TR's are most capable of. From what I know 1st hand, our cars handle quite well if you know how to steer your car with the back tires

No doubt that a GN or TTA could be a serious contender in that challenge but, what kind of PRIZE is involved??? Money maybe and how much of it?? Thats a pretty steep entry fee so I would assume the payout would be decent. Interesting idea though.......Be cool to see a GN or TTA compete!!

hard to say. doesnt he run on race gas on drag nights? I think he finally dipped into slicks too. All I think he needs to do is tune his car for pump 100, and get some DOT-R compound tires. I don't know how his skill are when it comes to car handling. there's gobs of cars out there that will out handle and out drive his supra in scca club sports and road racing. speed, power and style is is strongest points...no one really knows the potential he has as a roadracer or that of his car's. again, hard to say.

I thought he had begun to dabble on the road course, since Marcus had offered up the challenge...

The one thing that makes a roadracer is practice.... something few of us have tried....

I didnt see the one with Marcus calling on Ced. But I havent seen Ced take on the road course either. I know he isnt a solo 1 participant, possibly solo 2. He's never taken on the SuperLap series as well.

As for Marcus, he's a pretty seasoned road racer. his car fairly one of the quickest on the field despite it's cheap budget. Other than that...I know a few cars and drivers on the superlap field that are able to take on Ced and his car.

and do the rest as well?...

A few of them have pretty much everything down. Some of them have to give way to the comfort part because some of them have a full SCCA certified rollcage. One good example is our current points leader driving a Z06, and despite it's big engine...the car has decent mileage range, has everything that it came from the showroom with, and whatever he needs for SCCA solo 1 req. He will be one of the tougher ones to beat. All it really needs is a good detailing for the bling factor.

Yah, that's only one (example). There's a lot more (examples) that participate with SCCA solo 1 and SuperLaps that fulfill every category. Any where from Miata's to Ferarri's. Marcus stressed that euro/american exotics would have the upper hand in this event...and he's right. I'd love to see an exotic take steam, just about the only thing that will hurt exotics is the mileage part. But if you can affort an exotic, gas shouldnt be any problem

My car does not need to be Retuned for 100 octance. I just have to lower the boost which is no biggie. Since I spray meth/water at anything over 14 psi I really dont need 100 since I make 600 on 92. Not sure why you are throwing the SCCA and road racers in there. Looks like there is only the Slalom, not the full roadcourse although I have a bit experience there to. I have never run slicks, only drag radials which are DOT legal.

I thought your car was tuned for racegas, or at least have a setting to run race gas. I threw in the conesmashers and roadracers 'cause Rob said you did some roadracing. As far as I know and, in my exposure to the sports, I havent seen you currently partaking in any of the conesmashing and roadracing venues.

The slalom tidbit isnt my cup of tea, I'm not so interested in conesmashing...they have their perks, but I'd rather be on the roadcourse. The slalom is a good equalizer though, smaller wheelbase cars would easily thread the slalom and, the skid pad. They're fairly some of the better cars on the road course too ie. (Mini Coopers). To see your supra in the slalom would be interesting. I can't really guestimate what your car will do. Supra's are supposed to be fairly well handling cars, an underpowered Z06 (compared to your car) would fair better at conesmashing.

Are you thinking about entering this venue?

Welcome Ced...

Chris, I said I thought Ced had expressed interest when Marcus offered up the challenge...

If my car is here I will enter. Not sure if it will be back from Vegas at the time.
My car does have a boost controller you know. Its not always a full boost thing. I can run anything from 450 to 650 rwhp with the flick of a switch. Everyone seems to think my car is a drag race car but its not. Its a street car.
These events are won with consistency. You dont have to win every category to do well. Even if I dont do well in the slalom alot of the other events sway in the favor of a drag race car. Car show? Nuff said. Fuel Economy? I drive a straight six. Off the boost my gas mileage would surprise you. I also have A/C and everything the car came with from the factory. I think they should have incorporated the road course and also the dyno, just like the Sport Compact one actually. Should be fun.

I've seen Ced's car all over the place on the street... always clean and neat...

Which is why I mentioned that I could see Ced's car right in the thick of this, if not at the top...

I hope you will be back in time Ced...

Sorry Rob, I was generalizing.

the dyno idea sounds cool. I'll ask about that, but to make it fair...it will be more towards power:weight ratio. I assumed your car has a boost controller, most turbo'd cars with nut behind the wheel have a boost controller, essentially just generalizing "tuned" as "all of the above." It's safe to assume that you're not one to work half-assed on your car. Just like GN's about the fuel economy, they're great with fuel consumption if your not too aggressive on the gas and stray away from excessive boost. that that's a generalization with "tune", but then again...most cars have great fuel economy depending on how it's being driven.

i agree that your car is a street car, but your car(s) has been most associated with drag racing. i've done drag, conesmashing, and roadracing...it's a streetcar as well. not as nice as yours, not as much power as yours, possibly faster than you in the short course, slower in the long course...it's a street car, and my commuter car for everyday living.

It would be nice to see you enter if you can make it in time. You'd be going against (some) cars that arent normally prepped for drag racing.

I will try to make it. Honestly I think a well setup Z06 would be pretty hard to beat. A good balance of power, breaking and handling. Heres the rub though. Since there is no road course I could use drag radials. Because of the tire size I use I can still score pretty well in the slalom and Lateral G's. That makes me really dangerous in the 1/4, 0-60 and 0-100-0. Most cars are barely over 100 at the end of the 1/4 and I do OVER that in the 1/8 mile. If they do the scoring like SCC then the further you are away from the pack in one event the more points you make over them. Gus is supposed to enter with the Stealth. The AWD makes him quite formidible also. Hopefully people will enter. I am just wondering how they will time the 0-60 and 0-100-0 contests. But like I said, my car is not particularly SETUP for drag racing. I have coilovers, thats it. Those can be adjusted for drag racing, road racing and street racing. I actually dont 60 ft as well as most drag cars. Because of my power though I have managed to run 10's with a 1.9 and 1.8 60 ft. I will come to the event regardless if the car is back from Vegas or not. It was a great ideal and hopefully it gets alot of support. You should check with some of the guys on EFI to see if they are game. I am no longer with the group.

gus' stealth could do well too, but the car is heavy, i'm sure gus took care of some factors to eleviate the weight. I can forsee other awd cars, especially the evo 8 and sti cars doing great. chris morely of waialae subaru and of the iclub is pretty formidable. egmar klemmer, scca solo1 current leader, is also a very aggressive and talented driver with it comes to his sti. chris morely has a more complete package as far as his car goes, but he's not as talented as klemmer. klemmer's car is showroom stock..and he's faster than most of the modded sti's that participated in superlaps. he's not a conesmasher though, that shouldnt be a problem for him though. there has been only one evo that attended superlaps, i'm sure there's been a couple in solo2. i hear they're pretty good at conesmashing.

I dont know who are participating yet, it's too early. But I'm guessing that there will be a handful of scca and superlapers in the roster. anywhere from a beater honda civics to fully built solo 1 porsches, anything goes. so far I know there are a few cars that would give you a hard time. the Z06 is one of them and is so far the most talked about within superlaps and solo 1.

Who owns the Z06? I know of a few others here on the island besides mine, but I don't know of any that run SCCA events (until I read these posts). I wish I knew how to go around corners. I love drag racing though. I'm too scared to try the road course out there since part of it requires going through the staging lights area of the dragstrip which involved a big cement obstacle in the middle of the course (Christmas tree area of the strip). With my luck I'd hit that and total my car. Not worth the chance for me. But I will be trying for 800 RWHP with my new setup. 523 is just not nearly enough.
