Hi All,

Some background: I have a 86 monte carlo with a 383 making ~400HP. I have a 200R4 tranny with unknown miles (has a sticker saying it was rebuilt at one point). I installed the TransGo Performance 200-4R-HD2 shift kit when i swapped the motor and put about 2-3K miles on it. Also running 2500 or 3000 stall converter.
Noticed the 2-3 shift was sluggish so i dropped the pan

I was only running half of geometry corrector bracket I needed for the holly carb,
Sonnax-AS6-01-B.jpg

I had the AS6-01 but not the AS4-04K
With the new bracket installed and adjusted for full pull on cable @ WOT, I need to get to about 1/4 pull before I see an increase in pressure. Is this normal? If I adjust it so that I see the pressure increase once throttle starts to move, then I don't have enough travel at WOT.

my trans guy used that hd 2 kit and i ended up trashing the trans because it was never right afterwards........

Was the problem identified as a result of this kit?

not yet....i have to get on him to pull it apart and verify, but he's been building my trannies for 8 years...only "shift kit" was his own mod on the plate and a super servo....never had a problem with 3rd gear....only thing different with this build was the hd2 kit, and from jump i had a 2-3 flare....

The AS4-04K Bracket is the 'Important Part". It corrects Line pressure rise on aftermarket Carbs. The Holley linkage actually has decent inital Pr. rise without the Bracket but, after that it's not quick enough. Probably where some of that sludge came from.

It sounds like your TV Spring may be too Short. Chris at CK Performance can set you up with what you need.
First read thru this to be sure>> http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/part3.php
There are 2 other parts to the Article as well.

The newest 200-4R HD2 kits have been upgraded/redesign & come with a Billet Servo.

Do you know what this Trans came from? Trans Code?

I have used those brackets, they are updated geometry and work well. I agree you need a longer TV spring

The Sonnax brand brackets *AS6-01 & *AS4-04K above are more expensive.
These are the cheapest TV Geometry Corrector Brackets.
Holley/Demon Carb = http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-700202/
Edelbrock Carb = http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-700203/

Throttle & TV cable bracket for Holley Carb, will also fit Eddy :

There are several Universal Throttle/TV cable brackets that also fit Holley & Edelbrock Carbs.
Best Bracket for a Q-Jet is Factory/OEM.

I think my wifes car has one of those, I did not install the trans so am unsure. I just found the bracket here locally for $20 and will see how that works. I will install it and then check the line pressures.

finally got around to dropping the pan again. spring is 2.07". I pulled the valve body off too. Anything else I should check while i have it apart?

Maybe this tranny is too far gone? Pretty fed up with it right now.

Direct clutches may be fried.. There was a good bit of material in the bottom of that pan.
What did the fluid smell/look like, burnt/dark?
Get the TV geometry & TV spring sorted & it may work & last a while, hard to say for sure tho'.
You can try the small Sonnax ( AS1-01K ) spring mentioned above, it may allow enough travel @WOT. If not you'll need a different length TV spring. You want the pressure to rise instantly with Throttle.

Fluid did smell alittle burnt.
As far as I can tell, my spring isn't too short so I'd like to understand why I'm not getting the pressure rise.
