Tailshaft Q

I was looking at the tranny I picked up last night, and noticed that the splined shaft coming out of the tailshaft housing has a lot of up/down/side to side play. Is that normal?

Good. I can put together an old turbo Mopar with my eyes closed, but this Buick (and automatic trannies for that matter) are kind of uncharted territory for me. So I'll probably have a lot of noobish questions as things slowly progress.

Now to put it in and see if it actually works.
