Speedo cable

I have a cable that I think came from the same car that donated my drivetrain. It seems way too long though. Could someone maybe advise me?

That is probably NOT for cruise control cars but it would probably work if you lube it well and route it nicely.

Not going with cruise control, but the cable itself is way long. As shown in the picture, when connected to the speedo the free end is a foot longer than the grill. Doen't seem right.
