Something isn't right

Any help would be gladly accepted.My 86 BRF trans is not shifting until late and I must let off the gas a little.Also sometimes if I am cruising and punch it,when the trans kicks down the engine RPM's skyrocket.Sounds like I am balls to the wall except I'm not going anywhere.I let off the gas a bit and then it upshifts and thats when the cars starts accelerating.Weird HUH??Problem is I don't remember it doing this 2 years ago,which was the last time it was driven before the engine crapped out.Tried adjusting the TV cable but I'm pretty sure it is right according to the "feel" and "crispness" of the shift.Not too soft but not too harsh either.So..Um??What do you think?Thanks guys!

Sounds like low pump pressure.
