Soft Power Steering?

I have a 1987 Olds 442 and I noticed when I bought the car that the steering had a lot of play. So I read read up on it and they mentioned that turbo regals have a steering box that is almost identical, if not a little better. so I replaced the box with the turbo regal replacement, and instantly the play was totally fixed! However, now the steering feels like a '72 coupe deville. It has no stiffness whatsover. What can cause that? and what should I do to fix it?

Steering Box

I believe all the 442, GN and Monte Carlo SS all used the same box, around a 12:1 ratio, and all should interchange directly. You might look into the "rag" joint and see if the play is there. There have also been some posts on here lately about substituting a Jeep steering shaft that uses u-joints instead of the rag joint...

The new steering box did fix the play in the steering.. But now its
just VERY easy to turn, from turn to turn What makes
that nice semi power steering feel? I thuoght that was the pumps job??
