smoking question

I just got the motor in the car, and it has had a little smoke coming out the exhaust from the first turn of the key.
I only have 33 miles on the motor right now. A few people have told me that it is because the motor is new and the rings are not seated yet. Could this be the case, or do I need to start looking else where?

I usually smell the oil and check the plugs, just to be safe.

33 miles might be premature to do these things.
