slow spool and 12 psi

ever since i bought the car i always thought it was spoolin pretty slow and not pulling all that hard...well i got a boost gauge on it and its goin up to 12 psi..but what would cause the slow spool? i have stock d5 convertor, 36lb blue tops and i believe a te44 (any good way to tell what this is? i can take pix if it'll help)

#1, check for exhaust leaks. Cracked headers are usually the cause

how do you check for exhuast leaks? i know the guy before me had the axle tubes welded and exhuast leaks welded by hartline performance

Just check the headers/crossover from cracks. But it sounds like that was all taken care of.
