I know its been asked before but I can't find it. Which scan tool would be better for novice the scanmaster or powerlogger as I don't have anything? I have a laptop with Windows 7 and it there only a $20 difference in price.

Do I have to install the I/O on the Powerlogger as I have a AEM WB installed?

My car has been down for over a 1 yr and I need something to keep running properly. I'm not racing but I would like to see my time on the track this year.

Thanks for the help.

You can get a used Scanmaster on this board inexpensively, since it is a mostly a street driven ride, I would start with it SM, since it gives you what you need to properly tune the car and is small and compact. Haven't investigated the greater benefit of PL but SM does the job. JMHO

Start off with a scanmaster first. Then when you're ready to really fine tune your car, invest in a powerlogger.

A powerlogger does show more than a scanmaster but powerlogger also requires a laptop to log your data that you can go back and view later as opposed to staring at the screen....scanmaster shows some data on the fly.
