Rotella T4 triple

TireFryer

The new kid..
I bought Rotella t4 triple because of the high zddp (1150-1250 ppm) But I’ve been reading mixed reviews on it... Is it sufficient? Can I break in the cam with this oil? Should I add a bottle of zddp?

Do not add more ZDDP. 1150ppm is plenty. Too much and the phosphorus portion of the ZDDP will react with combustion by products and make the oil acidic. It's a balance. Too little is bad, too much is also bad. You don't need more than ~1400ppm, and adding a ZDDP additive to a fill of something that's already at 1150 is going to launch you over 2000ppm. That's too high.

It's a good oil for a cam break-in. What it isn't good at is extended time at high temperatures. It'll break down above 240-ish degrees and start sludging not far above that. It's fine for a daily. But if you're beating on it at all I'd look for a synthetic with more temperature tolerance or go with a really short change interval on the Rotella, like 2000 miles or less. The only way to be sure would be to run it and have it analyzed at a lab to see what shape the oil was in and adjust the change interval according to those results.

To put the ZDDP zinc level into perspective our cars, when new they used the grade SF which had a cap of around 1400 PPM of ZDDP and when new they had GM EOS added to oil. This shot the PPM of ZDDP way above the 1400 mark. Theres no fear of it achieving an acidic base that will start causing issues. With that said ZDDP depletes with use so if you had a just changed the oil and was using a oil that had 1100 ppm of zddp and added a bottle of ZDDPlus and that raised the PPM to 1500 and then ran it for several thousand miles and checked the zddp content the amount will be lower. IF you run a good name brand oil and one bottle of zddpplus your covered and no questions.

Perfect Subject about to take my Gn out of its winter sleep. I am about to change the oil and have been using Brad Penn 10W30 which in the specs states it has zinc it already. Based on your response TURBONASTY. You are saying I don not have to put the ZDDP additive? Also what is the WIX part number for the longer oil filter? Since I am posting.
Thanks guys. STAY HEALTHY!!

Not saying that Im saying you need to knopw the zddp level of BP and base it off of that
