Does a 1985 NA Regal and a 1986-87 GN have the same rearend housings?

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that only GN's, T-Types and the Olds 4-4-2 came with 8.5" differentials, all others had the 7.5".

All of the 84 up GN's came with the 8'5" rear along with the Hurts olds and that's just about it. All other G body cars came with a 7.5" rear in them.
