On the 3 pads that bolt to the flexplate, does in matter if the pads are not machined flat surface? I picked up a converter and 2 pads are not a clean flat surface. I know the previous own had a bolt come out and a 2nd come loose. It sounded like a rod knock but was loose bolts. Anyway the pads are scuffed up and not flat. Would that cause problems? I was thinking it could cause some vibrations. Could the vibrations cause engine damage like spun bearings?

Thanks for any help.

The pads need to be flat and perpendicular to the axis of the crankshaft. If not the bolts will deflect the flywheel when torqued into place and this could cause several different problems itself or the converter could run out if the pads are milled wrong causing yet more problems. You may need to run washers between the converter and flywheel after milling to get the converter depth where it should be.
