Quarter Panel Dent?

According to Summit's catalog the 345/35-R18's are almost 2 inches wider on the tread. 1.8 inches to be exact. I'm looking for that +/- 2 inches.

From Mickey Thompson's web site:

Size Weight Measuring Rim Section Width Tread Width Diameter
P325/50R15 32 lbs. 10" 13.2" 11.6" 27.8"
P345/35R18 35 lbs. 12" 13.9" 12.8" 27.5"

The section width (width from inner sidewall to outer sidewall) is more important than tread width if you're going for "look". And the difference is .7" or 18mm...exactly as would be expected.

Not trying to piss on your cornflakes. Just trying to make sure you understand what you're going to wind up with after all that time and money.

PS - Sorry, but this site won't allow you to post tables and I'm too lazy to post a .pdf. All the info is there though.

Thank you. You may have begun to tip the scales in the "not to notch" direction. Why sweat the expense, downtime, amount of dirty work, possible body dent, and all the other things, for not that big a difference? I see your point. If a MT Drag Radial was available for a 15 inch rim that was a true 2 inches wider, then maybe.

I may start looking for another thing to do. I just don't know. I guess it depends on whether I'm going to keep my rims. If I want to go with an 18" rim, I'm in it for another $2,500 on top of the notch work..

Years ago when we ran hydraulics on our lowriders the infamous dent would come in!! We started welding in panels in the the trunk that fit in that area!! A quarter panel within a quarter panel!! Solved the issue!! Just a thought but those hydraulics were equally as hard on the structure!!

The same track that let's guys like Brian Lorenz and Marty Green run in the 9's with no cage at all. You guys have some interesting interpretations of the rule book down there...
My local track booted me for running 11.49. They are an NHRA track and strict.

Same with my home track, which is also an NHRA track. When I took my Syclone there for the first time, they asked me what it would run and I said I didn't know, which was the truth. It ran 10.24 on pump gas and they literally escorted me off the premises. I don't know how the tracks these guys run on get insurance. And I wouldn't run at a track with such poor tech. You might think you have the best car in the world, but there's no accounting for the hillbilly express in the lane next to you.

you have to decide how fast you want to go.i can tell you having a very fast buick that there are going to be stresses to the car that are unavoidable the more power you put to the ground.regardless of the parts or suspension strategy.

ive ran 10's no notch or quarter dents

Oops, Hit the button.......

Anyway, Yes you run a 10 inch rim with no notch and no dent. So do I. I even had Magnum Drags like you about 3 years ago. But have you questioned doing it yet or the down sides?

When I ran my first 11 I had no cage at all, I was told "no more". That was at a regular test and tune day. The 9's were run at a Buick event. They seem to be a little more lenient at club events. Besides, it wasn't during competition. If it was, my competitors would have ratted me out....and rightfully so.

So you layered the inside of the quarter panel with sheet metal? Like double walled it?

Yeah worked like a charm and we were beaten those Montes pretty hard!!

I'll be home in a couple of days ill see if I can find some pictures of the mods we've done!!

I do want to put a roll cage in for saftey

At the very least I wouldn't notch without a 6 point roll-bar. As I stated earlier, I have a 6 point and I'm still worried. A full cage will require quite a lot of work for me right now.

I guess I know what has to be done. I just can't stomach the thought of all the work. The more I think, the more the list of items keeps growing.

Adding to the cage. Relocating my gauges on the A-pillar and overhead. Notching the frame, relocating fuel lines/tranny cooler lines/battery cables/other electrical wiring, Relocating shock mounts, welding in extra support/braces/sheet metal, Removing trunk interior to cut wheel wells to mini-tub them, Possible brake line reconstruction, Buying 4 new 18 rims for street use and 2 new rims for track use, Buying 4 tires for street use, buying slicks for track use.............more and more and more.:vomit:

I'm starting to sound like a whining little bitch. I'm going to save you guys from this crap. I think I'm going to kill this thread.

I'll figure it out.

I want a full cage ..I lost my brother he didn't have kids but I have 2 and they need me

no your aren't starting to sound like a bitch your stating facts !Its cool to run 10's 9's without a cage until something happens!

I've read about coating the panel with fiberglass matt...
