Im swapping the Th350 out for a BY code 2004R this summer. I dont have a computer but would like to lock up the converter. What have people used for lockup modules?

Painless has a vaccum modulated kit but ive read complaints about it. It sounds like it does what I want it to do but $160 for a hobbs switch and a relay with some wiring seems pricey.

Is there any really good method thats affordable or build yourself? I could certainly put in a manual toggle switch but i have a feeling I would forget about it being locked and burn up the clutch or something stupid.

Not sure who makes it, but, I installed one that used a pressure switch in the 2-4 servo cover. Just run voltage to the solenoid, switch provides the ground. Phil.

I posted a long reply with a lot of Info to this Thread and it disappearedo_O Oh well, not trying that again.

I did catch it, the site has been really funky lately with posts not staying and stuff. From what I took it is you run a wire from the brake lights to the plug on the outside witch unlocks the TCC when breaks are applied and the converter is locked on OD all the time.

I cant remember, do you need to replace the factory TCC solenoid thats in the 4th gear valve body with a different style or does the factory one work? I was worried about possibly burning the clutch up since it will be locked up all the time in OD but I will just remember to race in Drive and not OD. Trans should downshift if I put my foot into it at 70 and I dont have the power to burn up the TCC at part throttle in OD.

That's basically it. I'll post some links. 2004R & 700R4 use same method for TCC Lockup.
With the cheap Lockup Kits, most all use a 2-wire TCC Solenoid.
4th gear Pr. switch can be mounted externally in Port on passenger side just to rear of Servo.

What Carb are you using on the Cutlass?

Thanks, thats what im looking for.

Its a 80 Turbo drawthrough 3.8 with a factory Qjet and all the factory throttle cable and kickdown mounts. As long as a TH350 and 2004R have the same geometry between the TV and kickdown cable I should be good on that. If not I should be able to get some linkages off a 84+ CCC Qjet and adapt it.

I'm gonna try this one more time, My Posts keep disappearing.

You will need to swap the Shaft or side Linkage from a CCC Carb or modify your Carbs side Linkage for correct TV cable geometry. The Baseplate from a CCC carb wont work on a Non-CCC carb, passages don't align correctly.

2004R & 700R4 share the same TV cable & TCC Lockup setups.

More than one way to "skin a cat" .
Bowler = $399.00 = Ouch !
Not saying , just saying . . . You pay your money and take your pick .

Im cheap so I think Im going to swap the primary throttle shaft out in for a CCC carb to get the right linkage and wire up a relay into the brake switch and get a pressure switch.

Surprised theres that many people making kits and that they are that pricey. Maybe I should get into the business.

Off topic but cool L67 Firebird. Always wanted to do that. Back to your problem, sorry.

No problem, thanks. Its just my college car/winter beater. Engine is low on oil pressure and misses when hot so I gotta see whats wrong with it. If there wasnt so much snow on the ground Id pull the motor out next week since im off class but I dont think its going to melt in time to turn my cutlass into the DD. Getting cammed, reringed, bearings, ported heads, E85, PTC 3400 stall. Probably update the thread in the 3800 section if I actually get to it.

Ive done some hunting and found some electric delay boxes. Think the plan is to lock in 4th gear after 5 seconds and unlock when the brake pedal is depressed. Wont be as pretty as the $300 option but should work just as good.
