Need some info on a tranny x-member

What I need to know is will a transmission cross member from '78-'79 sport coupe or regal with a TH-350 fit or work on a 86 T-type with a TH-350 (about to be installed)? Are the cross members from the 2 different years interchangeable or are they '84-'87 specific? TIA!

Yes crossmembers are the same. There are a couple of different ones depending on engine and trans type though. If you are going to put the THM350 in a TR get a crossmember out of a A/G body with a 3.8/4.1 V-6 and THM200/250/350/350C. On the 82-87 frame there are two mounting locations on the right side where the older cars only had one. You just need to bolt it to the correct mount.

Why not use your stock crossmember??

Because his stock crossmember is for a 200-4R. He needs the other one.

The 78/79 Regal THM 350 crossmember will work in your '86 (which is what Eric said).

Well I wonder why my t type with a sbc and t350 still uses the stock 2004r crossmember if it wont work. All you have to do is change the trans mount.

2004r crossmember will work with t400 but you'd have to have to move the tranny mount forward like 3" to work with t350

The difference between the THM350 and 200-4R is the trans mount location. If you notice the pad on the 200-4R is offset from the center line of the car. The 350 isn't. You have to do a lot a fabricating the use 200-4 crossmember with the 350 or 400 trans. Why go through all the hassles and agravation when there are 100's of 3.8 V-6 with THM350's in the junkyards? v6 t350 cross member has offset mount also ...v8 cars have centered mounts.
the v6 offsets the tranny mount to aid in vibration dampning

can use either one but one bolts to the forward mount for t350 or rear mount for 400 or 2004r

Yeah your right. I did this swap about 10 years ago but went back to the 200-4R. If I recall the mounts were the same on the V-6 applications. Anyway the end of the story is to not use a crossmember from a V-8 if you want a true bolt in, no screwing around swap.

Yeah that one will work for you. Make sure you grap the mount to as new ones are discontinued and I dont think the aftermarket carries the correct one. The mounts are the same between the THM350 and THM200-4R.

I did the same conversion. My crossmember came out of a 4 door Olds cutlass that had a turbo 200 in it.
