Motor's in!!!

Finally got the new motor in the car! Now I have a couple of questions. I got the car to run and did the recommended cam breakin procedure, 30 minutes at 2500 to 3000 rpm. The car got extremely hot. Headers were glowing red on both sides! IS THIS NORMALl??? Also, I tried playing with fuel pressure since pump, injs, and regulator are all new. Had fuel pressure set at 40 psi line off. The car blew out tons of black smoke. Fumes were terrible! Brought pressure down to 30 psi, smoke went away almost completely. Had to leave it alone for today cause I have to go and buy a battery, didn't feel like jumping it again. I don't have a scanmaster yet, it's on the way. The big question I have is on the glowing headers, what caused this???Thanks

Most of the time headers glowing are caused from it being lean.
