LT4 Starter Install Help - Wires Don't Reach??

Another quick question for you guys:

Anyone install an LT4 (Vette) starter on their Turbo Regal? Did you have trouble getting the wire harness to reach? My small wire seem to be about 2.5 - 3 inches to short & the larger ones are about 1 - 2 inches short also. What gives? I thought this was a bolt-in? Any help is appreciated - I will attempt to lengthen them tonight unless some one has a solution.

Also, did you need shims or just bolted the starter up without shims?

Thanks in advance,
Brandon

I just double checked and I may have the wrong starter. I got it a AutoZone (Duralast) and the number is #17008 (#005797 on the receipt). This was from a 1990 Corvette. I believe the correct AutoZone Duralast part number is #17124 for a 1996 Corvette.

Can anyone verify this?

Brandon

OK,

Got the starter on and it fits and works perfectly!!!

#17124 is the correct starter.

good deal. And thank you for updating with the fix/correct number. I may be doing this swap in the near future so it is good info!

My local Autozone (Chicago, IL) was:

Part #17124

Price $118.99

Core $70.00

Hope this helps everyone,

A little research would've saved you a headache...

What are you guys doing for the core? I bought one awhile back for my 350 chevy.... and told the guy what I was doing... (converting to a mini starter) .... he said bring the old starter back.... he wouldn't say anything..... I figured this was the exception... not the rule...

Any of you guys able to do that?

The girl at the counter of my local AutoZone just told me to bring her "a" starter back. She new I wouldn't have the correct one for the box. I guess it doesn't matter to them???

Just be careful in case I'm wrong.

Just FYI, I bought a LT-4 starter from Auto-zone because my tilton died on my stage motor and I was in a hurry to get it fixed. It was roughly $140 + $60 bucks for the core I didn't have. It lasted a day one the little V-6 kicked back once and broke it off the side of the block. Took it back, they replcaed it, this one lasted 2 days and it broke the head off the starter. Took it back and got my money back. Bought a cheap engine works Hitachi style 2 hp. 6:1 gear reduction from a local speed shop for $150 bucks. It has a billet mounting head and claims to start 600 cu. in. up to 15 or 16:1 comp. Haven't had any problems since. But this is just what happened to me, Drew

I've been using my mini starter from big al for years
