lock up $non lock up???

lock up should have a square 4 pin plug on the left (driver) side near the front corner just above the pan rail. 85 should be a lock up unless someone took it out and put in a TH350 or 400

Lockup provides a direct mechanical link between the input shaft and engine. It eliminates slippage in the torque converter (which eliminates heat) and improves gas mileage. There is a clutch inside the converter and when the solenoid is engaged, the lockup valve in the pump moves and re routes fluid to evacuate the fluid from behind the clutch in the converter providing the mechanical link.:D
