This one works fine and comes with the docking station that holds the floppy drive and cd rom. Battery does not hold a charge.

2) NEC Versa LXI 450MHZ 128MB RAM 2GB HD WIN 98 $100.

I can only get this one to run in safe mode, I can put linux on it if interested. It has a floppy drive and a cd rom. This also comes with docking station.

3) Dell C400 Ultraportable PIII 866MHZ 512MB RAM 20GB HD WIN XP PRO $250.

This one works and looks great. CD ROM attached to the machine via cord on the side. Battery holds good charge.

Another Laptop...

I have another to add:

Dell D600 1.8GHZ Centrino 1GB RAM 40GB HD WIN XP PRO CD-RW/DVD Floppy. It has a good battery plus comes with 1 extra good battery. $400.

Probably not since safe mode is still in windows.
Directscan was designed to operate in DOS only, I wouldnt trust the readings if using it in any version of windows dos prompt.
