intake manifold

I've got my intake manifild off to powder coat and thought I would do a little port matching. I noticed there is some material inside the port next to the injector hole. It seems to shroud this area. My friends tell me to remove this to help the injector spray pattern. What was the reasoning for this extra material in the first place? Any tips on removing this casting dam?

i think the old saying was, the stock injectors required something to help atomize the fuel- that lil hump will make a stock injector work real good-
but since you have 009's you dont need it cause of the different spray pattern-

just port match it to the felpro gasket, and you should gain
1 mph in the 1/4

thats what i did on the last few toys-
