How do u identify a turbo?

If this a turbo for a turbo Buick... it is a TA series turbo (stock appearing) ... Probably the most likely.... a TA49 or a TA60..... these are probably the more common of the stock appearing turbos IMHO.... pull the compressor housing off and measure the compressor wheel.... that will give some more info as to what one it might be....
 
Here is a pic off the garrett website. There are two dimensions that you need. Exducer and Inducer......
 
If it is a TA49 it has the 60 trim T04E compressor wheel which has measurements of 2.29/2.95 and flows 53lb/min.

If it is a TA60, it has the T04B 60-1 compressor wheel (60 lb/min) (I can't find the dimensions at the moment)... and the same T3-76 trim turbine wheel as the 49......
