Hot Rod Power Tour kicks off Friday in Nashville.

Have fun, I did the tour last year. I was planning on the long haul this year but life is getting in the way again. Perhaps I'll drive to New Orleans?

I'm ready for them to come through Jackson. I got the digital camera ready with about a gig of memory. I figure I can take about 1000 pics:D :D ! I'll be spending most of the day taking pics.

HEy, I won't be there but this crazy friend of mine will

Look for the guy with the twin blown 91 Z28, Chameleon paint.
He's also taking an old 50s 4 door buick that he rigged a GN turbo (from me) on to. I'm betting it'll break down before he gets very far - He's Mark Bowler from Bowler transmission. Smack him for me and tell his wife she's a hotty (in front of Mark of course!)

Have a blast, I always did!

Can't wait! Been looking forward to it. Not going to be able to follow to N.O. though.

6Appeal & Mark (if you drop in), if you like car shows check this site out for local shows:

I will definitely be at the Jackson part, hopefully I will make it to Memphis Saturday. I am on vacation with the family right now in sunny Florida. Don't know if we will be leaving in time to get to Memphis. I would like to meet some of the guys from the board. Just look for the white El Camino SS with the GN emblem in the grille. Hope to see some of you there.

I'm gonna meet up at Lake Charles, go to Shreveport ( I heard there will be racing there) then take it on home to North Texas. I should be good and broke by the time I get out of Louisiana. i'm staying at 2 different casinos while there!:)

Did you guys get to make it today? I saw 6APPEAL's car parked (nice!). Saw GNX 478 leaving. We left at 3, didn't realize so many cars were still pouring in from the interstate.

I think my favorite in the show was this Camaro:

Front

Interior

Dash

Rear

Bad

I just barely got some video of this S10. A guy said it had some sort of helicopter engine (I know nothing about them). You can just see the twin stacks of flames right behind the cab before they shut it down. This thing got a crowd when it came in. Don't know if they really drove it or what?

Video

Sorry for the quality, it was done on the camera. You can hear it pretty easily though, and I was not close.

Well, I made it and have the sunburn to prove it. I got a little over 400 pics before I went through all 3 batteries for my digital camera. I did not get shots of all the cars I wanted. I chased a funky metallic green with flames 29 Highboy around the fairgrounds for 20 minutes but never found the car. Hot Rod is estimating that 4000 cars passed through the gates (lookers and tour cars). From the size of the event parking area I would say there were about 1000 tour cars. I was told that alot of the MS cars that showed up for this event are usually only at Cruzin the Coast where there are 3000 to 4000 participants. I got there at noon and left at 5:00 and there were STILL cars rolling in. I was amazed that folks were taking pics of my car as I waited in line to pull out. I pulled out behind the White 70 GSX (SWEET).

turbo87limited - I was standing next to the TALL dude from Primemedia when he was talking with you about doing an article on your El Camino. I must say that is a pretty nice ride. If someone doesn't buy my 86 T pretty soon, I've had my eye on a mid-60's El Camino that I think would be great with a Turbo drivetrain or do a Turbo MCSS.

The Power Tour was an E-ticket ride for sure:cool: :D ;) :p  !!!!!!!

I returned from the Jackson stop of the Power Tour this afternoon. What an event that is! The schedule I kept since Friday made for long days but it was a hoot!

Yesterday, I had the Comp Cams Webmaster as my passenger so the GN became the camera car. He has been taking video every morning during the travel portion of the tour and then the video is replayed all day at the Comp/TCI display trailer on two TV monitors.

We wanted to take full advantage of the four lane portion of 61 to capture as many rides as possible. The rest of the route to Jackson was two-lane blacktop. This made for some rather spirited driving to say the least. We cruised from group to group of cars, filming each one as we passed. Needless to say, there was a bit of triple digit speed action to catch the groups ahead of us. :p

...and then there were those two little burnouts for the folks in Yazoo City. ;)

I have placed a number of my tour photos on the TCI Web site this evening at www.tciauto.com/tci/special/2003_power_tour.htm There are also some photos and video clips posted at http://www.compcams.com/Community/Default.asp?page=events&level=day&parentid=9

The GN certainly deserves a breather. I've put over 2000 miles on it in the last 2 1/2 weeks between the tour, the Bowling Green trip and commuting to work. It's up to 220,000 now...but who's counting anyway. :D An oil and fuel filter change are first on the agenda.

just back in myself

We just got back in from the New Orleans trip about 10 last night. Man I had a blast. I got to meet Richard Gautier (sinisterv6) at the fairgrounds. And I think, hopefully, GMHTP will do a little write up on the car. Jim Macilvane, a really tall guy I mean to tell you, took several pics of the car all the way to N/O, and several more @ the fairgrounds. 6Appeal I wish you would have introduced yourself, I always like to meet other Turbo guys. Anyhow I wish I could have done the whole tour, but I had to be back at work today. See ya & have a nice day.

Power Tour was a blast! And I was just a spectator at one stop. Can't wait to be able to participate.

Bubba, It was great meeting you. My buddies thought it was hilarious that we knew each other by our ScreenName from TB.com! If any of you get a chance to see Bubba's "Grand Camino", do so! It's very clean and gives new meaning to the term "Ghost Flames". Most subtle flames I've ever seen. I guess we'll all get to see it in GMHTP one day soon.

Bizzare Turbo Buick of the day. The 1950 Buick sedan with the '
GRANDE NATIONAL stickers on it. Upon closer inspection it was still running the straight 8 cyl with a Garrett Turbo and TR style intercooler. Of course, it was black. It wasn't real pretty, kinda rough but the guys in it were nice and were having a really good time. GNX #478 was there as well and was just about to hit the 9,000 mile mark. He'd done some subtle mods but nothing you couldn't undo.

I've got pics of all this stuff if anyone wants to see it.

HAHA - That's my buddys car (Mark Bowler). Running my stock turbo and IC on it.
FREAK-
No - it's not real pretty but HUGE...it's ALL ORIGINAL paint, interior etc...He dug it out of some barn somewhere, got it running and decided to take it on PT.
He wanted to see if he could get a rise out of people...

Richard, my buddies laughed about the same thing. It was a great pleasure meeting you and your 3 friends. I hope we can get together when we come down for CRUZIN THE COAST in October. Maybe by that time I may can make my GHOST flames stand out a little more. LOL. Give me a call if you are ever up Jackson way.

Bubba, it was nice meeting you on the Tour! Keep your eye on GMHTP for coverage. The pictures of your El Camino turned out pretty good :) We'll most likely be headed to the Bristol Bash this fall and hope to see more folks from this site at that event.

Jim

Thanks for the compliment Jim. If you get a chance Email me a couple of the pictures please, I would like to see how they turned out myself. Thanks again for the interest in my car.
