Help with idle, please.

86 t-type. When the car starts up, she idles fine. About almost a minute of warm up, she idles up, then down, then up, then down, like the IAC is out of wack. The car has a brand new IAC, and a local mechanic that is good with these cars adjusted the idle as follows.

Unplugged the IAC, adjusted the idle screw so that the car would idle at 550 rpm's, then plugged the IAC back in.

Any suggestions?

What chip is in the car?

You can try this but you should have a scantool for reading the IACV counts and TPS voltage easily.

IAC Reset Procedure

After you adjust the throttle blade screw which affects the IACV counts, you NEED to check and possibly reset the TPS adjustment.

Small changes preferable when adjusting that screw also and then recheck that TPS and adjust each time you move the screw if needed.

If you have a scantool report the TPS number at idle.

Here's a suggestion.

Turbo Regal Web Site

Seriously though, go there and follow the sensor reset procedures. The throttle body, contrary to popular belief, is not a carburetor. HTH james
