I have had a boost issue for sometime now but with trans problems and i am no TR specialist I couldn't get it figured out.Now trans fixed. I have had this week off to play with my gn.I couldn't build boost I tried everything looked over vac lines 10 times with vac pump.Replaced all exh.gaskets. I bought a boost controller still couldn't get it over 10psi. Well I tried everything else so what the hell i took of my cat and put up my exhaust dump. It scared the hell out of me 35mph pushed the peddle about half way and car turned sideways tires spinning 20psi instant. :D
So what could have caused this? something clogged i am confused. The cat is not clogged some black in there but still see through it. Anyone have an idea?

On my old truck the cat was clogged. At start up it ran fine but as soon as it got some heat in it I assume the material started expanding and it was nearly completely air tight.
Great to see you have it figured out.

 Either the cat is clogged, or, since you say you are running thru the dump now, the exhaust is clogged somewhere down the line.... sure some neighborhood brat didn't stick a 'tater up the pipes?? :p Seriously.... no really.... seriously... :) What kind of exhaust are you running? If it's a single shot, perhaps the muffler has come apart internally and is blocking flow? If you have duals, hook 'em back up, and see if there's any difference in flow between pipes....

when i picked my first tr up it had 120k on the clock, totally stock ran fine but wouldnt build any boost like you say 10-12psi and she was done , and was very slow compared to everything else i had ever driven

since i had just bought it i didnt want to drop the cat because it was going for smog soon but all things pointed to a clooged cat

well this is what i found

i ended up breaking out the melted section with a crowbar , left what i could and reinstalled it and went through emmisions with no problem , pulled it back off and replaced with a test pipe ,went 12s on its next trip to the track

if your running with the dump open then it try it capped , if it runs lousy or as bmckinnon posted .. sounds like you have more restriction down stream , not uncommon to find the mufflers packed full of rodent nesting and acorns , my couisin had a muffler he pulled off his car and found it stuffed with dog food that he stored in the garage . its also posible to have the muffler baffles rust out and block the tailpipes

LOL on the dog food and these things have cats. i guess i should have said there is only 7,000 miles on the cat. I did close up the dump still running great. the mufflers are hooker dual after the cat.Its very weird if you look at the cat it looks new. I can post a pic if needed.
