What are the benifits, if any of gutting the MAF? Does it just mean taking out the screen?

Do NOT gut the maf if you don't have a chip burned for it. There are 2 screens in there and I followed the advice on here and removed the first one only, thinking it would help out air flow. My car ran like SH!T until I put the second screen back in. Others on here had good luck removing just the 1 screen, but my car did NOT like it.

I've "gutted the MAF" on my car because it's just a hollow tube (I have an LT1 sensor in the aircleaner box).

Steve Yanklin's Max Effort chip can be set up to run with a "screenless, venturiless" Delco MAF (And now can go completely MAFless).

A screenless, venturiless stock MAF can flow more than 250 CFM more than a stocker with no other changes.

A screenless 3" LT-1 sensor flows similarly, but doesn't need a special chip.
