Hard Starting / MAF Sensor

Been chasing a case of hard starting issue when car is cold. Have ensured the fuel pump / fuel pump relay is not the issue.

Earlier today when changing the air filter I also pulled the MAF and cleaned it. After getting everything back together I started the car and it started right away when cold.

Has anyone ever experienced or heard of this issue before and it being the MAF sensor? This is the stock sensor and would really not want to go the route of a LS1 MAF and MAF Translator. If so, what can I do to fix this? I’ve read that the stock MAF replacements aren’t the best…

Thanks

The car will start, idle, and transition between throttle points much better with a more modern sensor and a translator. Put the original on the shelf if it still works and you could always convert back if you go to sell etc...

What’s needed in order to convert? How straight forward is the conversion?

Cleaning seems to help for a few starts then back to hard cranking.

No point in re-cleaning one that's "on it's way out".
As mentioned, use a translator. Not difficult to do.
Try a search.. Lots of info.

It's plug and play. I used an 85mm MAF from a 6.0 Silverado, which required a 3 wire to 5 wire conversion harness, which was about $20. Install time was measured by 1 cold beer.
