fuel pressure regulator

I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator that I think stopped working. I hooked a friends electric gauge up two weeks ago and it worked. I went to hook up my brand new auto-meter gauge and it stays on 40 psi. I turned the screw and it does nothing. I also took the vacuum line off and it still stays the same. I took the fuel pressure regulator off and took it apart. I noticed the spring is really worn down on both sides, looked like it was grinned down. They sell a rebuilt kit for my regulator $25 bucks. Does this sound like this could be the issue?

savagebreed,
i had a similiar problem. My regulator was from Kirbans and worked fine for years. Then the screw got to where it didn't seem to do anything. I rebuilt it but still no luck. Thats when I noticed my fuel pump starting to go. I am trying to get my new pump working now, I believe that was the source of my problem.

If I ever get my pump working I'll let you know if it fixed the regulator problem.
