found metal in oil pan...any help on where it could have came from?

Just purchased an 87 motor and took off the valve covers and and oil pan...drained the oil and found no shavings however the round cylinder shaped piece of metal was in the oil pan...the flat piece of aluminum was found under the valve cover...any ideal on where it may have came from?

Can they be p/u w/a magnet? The aluminum pc may be from the valve cover or something that fell in there undetected. The other item looks like a spark plug tip or a badly damaged push rod end?

Hmm sparkplug tip seems kinda big, guess its possible..... but why would someone have the tip off.

Maybe Round piece is possibly a old link to a timing chain from a past failure.

Other piece from under valve cover .......theres a wall that drops down on the inside where the breather is on pass side valve cover maybe its a piece of that broke off.

The steel piece looks like a pin from a timing chain? The aluminum piece looks to be cast, almost looks like part of a piston... But don't know why it would be up in valve cover area? Check all the pistons to see if they are damaged.

Thanks guys I was thinking the same thing! While the motors out I think im going to pull the heads and replace timing chain to be on the safe side

Take the time and setup your oil pump as well while front cover is off.

Is it the lighting or does the steel piece have a hex drive hole in it? It looks too big to be a timing chain link.

Cut the filter open to see if there are shavings in this motor. I blew a motor once and found chunks of piston in the valve covers.

Verified the piece in the valve cover.. it chipped off the old set...the bottom end I have attached more photos...it appears to look like the tip of a push rod until I seen it was solid and a little smaller in width

How about a rivet from a set of Cometics?

Thats what my dad was saying...the object is solid unlike a push rod end and a little thinner

cometic rivets are very thin (and it seems they are brass or bronze)
