Fluctuating fuel gauge

Yeap. Happened in my old 88 Camaro, and the T-type. I ASSume your talking about the gas guage moving when you give the car gas or when braking?

No, it just will read half full, then sometime a quarter, then the next day back to half.

The potentiometer(SP) may be getting worn out, could have some dead spots in it.

It's just not consistent, if that makes sense.

The sending units always fluctuate to an extent. As the gas sloshes around the needle goes up and down constantly. I've seen it with alot of older GM products

I had the exact same problem as you.I removed the gauge from the cluster and cleaned the three contacts on the back of the gauge.Hope this works for you
