Is ethanol free 93 fuel better than the fuel with ethanol in it?

Ethanol was added to the fuel as an anti-knock agent when MTBE was banned. The Ethanol free gas sold in my area does not compensate for taking the Ethanol out, meaning, there isn't anything in the gas to control knock. Not sure how it is in your State but this is what I've been told by fuel experts in mine.

There has to be something in the gas to attain its advertised octane rating.
