Engine water flow diagram

In a nut shell.....radiator to lower radiator hose....Lower radiator hose to water pump....pump through engine block and heads ......engine block and heads to front of intake manifold t stat /tstat housing.....tstat housing to upper radiator hose. And theres the heater core /heater hose circuit. Also water pump bypass hose to circulate water till t stat opens.

Yup got it. I was flushing rad...removed all heater core tubes, plugged the water pump heater core line then applied air into the intake heater core bung. As expected the air drained additional antifreeze. However it drained back into the PS rad tank?!?

it went down the hose that hooks the water pump to the radiator... what's so strange about that?

and why are you applying air to your cooling system? a garden hose hooked up to a heater hose works for flushing, and there are drain plugs that you remove down by the oil pan to get all the coolant and whatever other gunk settles into the block to come out..
