Can an ECM be damaged if the power is cut/back on quickly when driving?

The orange ECM wire next to the battery on my '87 wasn't connected (clip wasn't locked) when I bought the car. I'd hit a bump...the SES light would come on..engine would die, then come back on.

This would happen only on harsh bumps and for only a split second.

My light throttle surge/skip disappears if I reset the ECM. But comes back after the ECM learns.

Thanks.

Steve. '87 GN,t-tops. Mostly (all?) stock,PowerLogger. 81k.

unplug the orange wire, take your computer chip out, wait about 30 second to a minute, put the chip back in without bending any prongs, then connect the orange wire. turn the ignition on and see if your check engine light flashes once or twice then goes on steady. if it flashes once or twice and goes on steady, then start the car and it should be fine. it will all reset. if it stays steady, then look into a new ecm

If the problem comes back after it learns, it could be a bad chip(who knows whats in it), a vacuum leak(high BL), bad O2 sensor, etc

You need a scantool to check the numbers and that will tell you where to go next.
