Diode question

Well I don't know exactly where to put this but here seems good as place as any I am putting together a DIY knock indicator (off gnttype), and confused about which way to install the diode. There is a symbol kinda like this >l on the diagram. Which way does the diode face? TIA

silver side of the diode goes to the power side/ positive side.

The banded or black or colored line around one end of the diode goes to the end where the vertical bar is on your diagram here.

Oops...I forgot to mention that I figured it out. I was playing with a battery and a DVOM. Thanks guys!
