So my buddy wants me to move out there and might have a job paying ridiculous money for me... but what's life like in Denver? My whole family is in Philly/nyc, so I'm not sure if I could bring myself to move away... hmm...

I used to live there when i was a little kid, all my family lives there, and I love going back there to visit, hell if the navy had a base there I would seriously look into moving there, as I may be a commercial pilot later in life I could see myself living there. I love to snow board as well so that may have a bias as well. One thing you have to keep in mind is Denver is a huge metro area...with 10 or so major suburbs, you have to try to live somewhere near you place of work or you will have one hell of a commute.

I have lived in Colorado for 23 years - Ft. Collins from '81 - '91 and the Denver Metro area since. It is night and day different from what I have experienced in trips to New York. The city is not as cultural or trendy as the east coast. We are not a dusty old cow town, but blue jeans will suffice for most occasions. A lot of companies have casual type dress - slacks and golf shirts - as opposed to suits. There is no place in Denver that I am afraid to drive through during the day. There are a few places that get me a little nervous at night, but I'm never scared for my life. We have all the major sports and the mountains are an hour to an hour and a half away. Many outdoor activities - fishing, skiing/boarding, mountain biking, hiking etc. The major draw back is that the area is getting more crowded - but nothing like the east. My 22 mile commute takes between 30 and 45 minutes fro the Soutwest to the "Tech Center". Possibly the worst traffic you will run into is on a Sunday afternoon heading into Denver from the mountains - either summer or winter. Oh, and your car WILL slow down - the local track is aroud 5800'. Let me know if you any specific questions.

I grew up around Longmont, Louisville, Lafayette.......basically alot of 'L' towns in Boulder county. I just went back up there last weekend to visit in Estes Park and Loveland and buy a car in Aurora. I hate that place because I loved it 20 years ago and that has been built over, progress has ruined the CO I remember. But, if you are new to the area, I think you will like it alot....very clean, no shortage of good employment, etc. Plus, if you're that type who appreciates the outdoors/nice surroundings, CO has 53 mountain peaks that are in excess of 14,000 ft, so it's plenty purty. Why not try it out for a while? Will you actually be in DENVER, or a smaller town nearby?

Maybe overkill, but I thought this was interesting:

Colorado was one of my favorites out of everywhere I've lived (Currently in NJ, about 15 minutes from Philly). In addition to what's been said the people are just great and the attitude is much more relaxed than out on the East coast. Being a large city Denver naturally is a little more hectic, but certainly not to the degree of Philly or NYC. I'd fly out and check it out for a week or two, then if I didn't hate it and the job was really good and the family willing, maybe have a little adventure. The actual physical process of moving sucks though...... Can be worth it in the end if you end up somewhere you love. Good luck man!

Cool! Thanks for the tips. Sounds like a cool place... I think I'll have to go out for a week and see how I like it. Thanks again!

I've been in Colorado for ten years and love it. The only place I would rather live is Texas:cool: I've lived in Denver, the mountains and now northern Colorado. Of the three areas I would have to say I like the Greeley,Loveland, Ft. Collins area the best. Between those three towns you can pretty much find anything you need within 1/2 hour and never have to set foot in Denver if you don't want to. Denver is one of the nicer big cities I've been in, but it does have it's bad parts. Most jobs here pay a good salary but the cost of living especially housing is pretty high compared to the midwest and south. The median home price in Denver is well over 200,000 dollars. I get a little sick to my stomach when I vist friends and family in other states and see them living in huge houses on several acres for what I paid for a small ranch. Other than the cost of living and the fact that your car will run quite a bit slower it's a great place to live and work.
