Cut open fuel filter...wondering what this dark spot is?

This a/c delco stock replacement filter was installed about 4 years ago. I switched to 100% e85 2 years ago. It looks clean except for the dark stripe, which is much darker on the inside half, obviously. Is this normal?

Try WIX # 33481 and pull in 6 months or so, then the results will be pure E-85

Wonder if it is some type of end of roll marking for the filter material that is used in the manufacturing.

Probably has something do with how the filter was manufactured, it's too uniform to have been the fuel running throught the filter.

I would cut open a brand new filter for inspection and then compare.
Do you know what a new filter costs? Maybe we can start a fund raiser, and get lucky enough to raise the money for one! J/k! Very good idea! The mark in the filter looks like it was always there.

The only thing I've seen after a year of e85 that kind of concerned me was how dirty my main pump fuel sock was. Inside of the tank looked great though, so I think it's probably from all of the leaded fuel I ran through it previously
