When engaging the cruise control button it works fine. But if I use the R/A switch it disengages the cruise control unit altogether. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

It can be in the switch itself or the wiring.

The one I got out of the Help section of a local parts store is a bit intermittant with that same control.

Try pushing the R/A lever and wiggling it a bit, if it catches and resumes accelerating it's in the switch, if it never works most likely that portion of the wiring is bad between it and the mating connector up under the plastic, drivers side footwell, cover.

Changing the switch out usually fixes that problem.

A test at the cruise control module box or at the connector would be done as follows.

Key on test connector OFF at the 4 pin connector the switch mates with up under the steering colum drivers side footwell right side of column.

Blue wire from the switch will provide +12 to the yellow wire when the R/A switch is pressed forward. Measure with a voltmeter or test lamp from the yellow wire to a good ground.

If you wish to test at the cruise control module where that wiring ultimately goes leave the stalk plugged into it's mating 4 pin connector and take the connector off the cruise control module.

Measure for the +12 upon R/A activation, at the gray/blk stripe wire which is on PIN M of the connector.
