my friend has a new ductile roller from comp cams and the front journal does not have the oil groov cut into it like on the stock cams. will this be a problem in oiling the lifters on the driver side? or will it get enough oil from around the bering.

You will have to verify if the block has a groove behind the bearing before installing that cam. I thought that the 109 blocks were all grooved but someone has posted to the contrary. It is easily cut into the cam journal in a lathe or just buy a set of bearings from TA perf that are grooved. Its also a good time to replace the front cam bearing anyway, but you will have to drop the pan to retrieve it the one you knocked out. You can verify if the bore is grooved this way. Also you will need some bushing drivers. I have done this on every 3.8 where i changed cams because the front bearing is usually worn badly.
