yeah it should work just fine, but you will not be able to adjust timing like you would using the extender chip. At least thats what i have understood

The timing can be adjusted, that's an internal thing in the Translator and nothing to do with the chip (assuming the timing wires are hooked up). What can't be taken advantage of is the fuel tuning capabilities because of the 255 MAF limit with a NON extender chip.
