We are running 400 turbo with a JW ultra bell behind a 5.3l. They work but there is one bolt in the bell you can't use.

Do you think the 400 work better with the ls than the 4l60 and do you need to drill more bolts to line up the 400

4l60 bolts right up where a 350 or 400 turbo you can't get the passenger middle bolt in. There is a water passage so it can't be drilled. You need to decide how much street driving your going to do. We are building a twin turbo 5.3l and are number chasing not street driving. Rpm transmissions builds 4l60 that will hold a lot of HP and still be street friendly with overdrive

I will have to go with the 4l60 because I'm trying to keep it street legal but I would like to run mid 10's at the track

I street drive my th400 with a ultrabell on my 5.3 no problem. 4l60s are a little more pricey to build thrn 4l60s and 4l80s

The Ls1 route will be substantially cheaper if you buy a complete, running motor. An Ls1 typically goes for $1,500 whereas the Ls2 goes for $4,000.

Onto the question at hand: Yes, both will work. GM hasn't changed the bolt patterns for bellhousings for a LONG time. If you plan to drive the car on the street or occasional trips such as the Power Tour the 350 isn't for you. You'll probably want that OD. Personally, the 4L80 is the only route I'd go. Here is why...

The pricing is ridiculous, if the car isnt geared crazy it will not hurt you, ive driven 175 plus km and raced my car and using just over a half tank. I have a th400.

A good friend of mine bought a brand new th400 buily for 4 digit hp came with an sfi bell housing, trans brake and manual valve body for 1000 dollars, its been in s full weight turbo camaro for 4 years without problem. You can't beat the 3 speeds for thr price
