Best tuning? Knock gauge, and a stop watch! Seriously, there is no "target" to shoot for in either the A/F reading on a wide band, or the temp reading on an EGT meter. How would you use either one to do an initial tune? You have to tune for max performance, with little/no knock. When you have done THAT, then you will know what conditions are right for your combo, and if you have a wide band, or an EGT gauge, you can see what the "target" should be. Depending on a lot of things, one engine might like 1400, another might like 1500. One engine might be running best with 12 to 1, another might need 11.5 to 1. You just don't know, until you try it, and see.
