This is all I plan to run in the GN going forward. If it continues to run this smooth from 3,100 miles, I don't forsee any problems going forward with the cam. Did anyone post approximately how many miles it was before the cam problems revealed themselves?

I'm pretty sure the only Amsoil product that offers the required Zinc & Phosphorous is their Series 2000 Synthetic 20W-50 Racing Oil https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/tro.aspx and SAE 60 Synthetic Racing Oil (AHR) https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/ahr.aspx

Provided that is the problem and I'm not 100% sold on it. I guess only time will tell. I haven't seen where mileage is mentioned. Is it 100K or 10K miles the problems show up? The fact that it does could be for a several reasons from maintenance to driving habits. If my cam doesn't spit out by 20K, I will be more of a skeptic.

There is tons of stuff out there to read and I'm not saying I read them all. But what I have read, seems to imply to break in periods only, Flat tappit, and ratical cams. Now I have read a few people having issues with some none ratical cams but they all seem to have been around the break in period as well. Who knows whats really going on but it makes you want a roller cam in a bad way.

Heres the oil Comp cam says use: click on this www.powerandperformancenews.com/Technical/Newsletters/Files/PAPNV2I10.htm once on scroll down to Flat tappet Camshafts bulletin.

I broke mine in on valvoline conventional 10-40. my engine builder said if i was gonna wipe one id done it at about 700miles or so. ive been through 4 oil changes MOBILE1 SYN. 10-30.(Not to mention around 25 hard passes at the track which is not sayin much i dont have near the hp alot of you guys have.) After listening to you guys and the bulletin. i use VALVOLINE VR-1 10-30 for the track and im gonna use ROTELLA-T 15-40 for the street and long term use. its only $7.96 for 4 gal. at wal-mart. I just dont know whether to use the regular or the ROTELLA-T SYNTHETIC??? i think its 9.96 or 10.96 for 4gal.

I was totally sold on Amsoil as well, it made my lifter tick go away, and I had nothing bad to say about it. I even got a few freinds to use it. About 3 months ago my cam went, and i couldnt find a mechanical source for it. I asked around and everyone I asked said it was probably due to the oil. Whether this is the case or not, I'd rather be safe than sorry so I'm switching to Rotella which is what my engine builder said he uses. The engine and cam had about 25k on it.
just my .02

Wow, that's interesting at 25K that happened. I think if I ever go near the cam again, it's getting a roller. When I blew up the 4.6 in my 99 GT, running 10s on the stock longblock, I bought a new built block and used the stock cams. They barely looked worn at all with 35K miles on them and many 10-11 second passes. If Grooms offered a roller with the block I bought and it would have cost me an extra $800+, I would have definitely paid it. I hate worrying about things when it's not necessary. When I get some time and a few $$$, I will throw in a roller and not look back.
