'98 Grand Am, AC delete?

Trying to find out for a buddy. He has a '98 Grand Am with the 2.4L 4 banger. His AC has seized up and the belt snapped. Does he have to drop money on a new AC unit or can he bypass it(would be cheaper)? GM dealer told him no. I would think he could, but...? I was hoping someone on here might have an idea. You can use GM part #24574519 idler pulley bracket to replace the AC compressor. Just like the pulley we use on a TR when we delete the compressor.

No its a different part. That number is 2.4 Quad4 only.

The one for a TR is part#10118713.
