Im trying to work a deal to get a 88 Corvette Roadster that runs and is 100 percent complete just in rough shape needs paint and interior and the motor has over 100,000 on it, so I have a Buick 3.8 and a 200R4 sitting around. Maybe for aesthetics I could go for a twin Turbo setup. I'm sure this has been done. There seems to be more then enough room for inter-cooler and what not. Just might make for a kick ass convertible corvette. It doesn't seem to be that hard of a swap, but then again Ive done a swap like this. what do you guys think?

sometimes its easier said than done. I really don't remember anyone doin one for years !! Jimmy "D" had one back in 89/90 from NJ. Went good

I have a 84 Corvette with a LC2 and 200R4 trans. It is alot of work to make it fit like the factory did. You have to fabricate everything,
engine mounts,trans mounts,fuel system,exhaust, downpipe,engine harness,modify radiator mounting,fabricate intercooler brackets,etc.
It is a great project, but alot of work.

Regards,
Juan

DAMN 240P WE MEET AGAIN !!!!!

Nice vid, I was thinking now of using the existing 700 trans in it. It should hold up to the torque curve of the V6 instead of using the 200R4. Then I dont need to worry about cross member attachment etc. and I know we have a pretty good Automotive shop in town that also does swaps like this. So the support is there. I just hope my wallet is.

Remember that the 700R4 has a steeper first gear, so factor that in when you choose your stall speed. Also, the 700R4 has 4th gear lockout, it stays in 3rd at wide open throttle unless you modify it otherwise...

I have a tranny guy in Bakersfield thats gonna work on it, he swapped the trans out of a C4 before and said it was a nightmare trying to get placement right because it being so tight in there. Not sure what he swapped it out with but the mounts were definately had to be custom. Thank you for your input. I'm gonna write these notes down so I can talk to him about it, to make sure this will work. He said since its not like a big block making mass torque off the bat, it should be able to handle the V6 torque curve. The spare engine I have is .30 over, girdled, forged rods, crank, polished rod ends, gonna use GN1's it has a 210/215 cam if I remember right. (gotta check paperwork) and since its a convertable I got a call into Jeff Conway in Bakersfield to put in a roll bar and what not. This is just the beginning so Im sure Ill have hurdles, and thank you for any info you guys may have, pros/cons etc.

I would use the 200r4 or the 4l80e. There is a kit to put a 4l80e in a C4 . Fabricating the bracket to mount the trans to the c-beam wasnt to hard.
You are going to have to swap the stock D36 rear to a D44 unit. It is mutch stronger. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Regards,
Juan

I almost forgot the rear end...lol thanks Im putting this all in my budget , I found a site that has information for trans swaps :
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/700R4_Swap_Info.htm

they may become useful. I may have to take you up on the help Juan thanks a lot, now to pu D44 on my list too....its getting long haha

How fast you looking to go with the car ??? How heavy is it ??

low 10's on pump gas and meth injection, with cage car is a little over 3200lbs with existing V8, V6 should lessen that a little but with the addition on the roll bar/cage. wont be to sure of the final weight.

I wouldn't stay with a 700R4 then.

Well I do want the 200r4 and if the tail adapter will make cross memeber work then Im in buisness!!

I would stick with the 700R4, Dana is undoubtedly the guy to talk to when it comes to redoing your stock 700R4. You can have 4th gear at wide open throttle, as well as throw as much horsepower you want to at the trans and it will laugh at it. Give him a call, he is one of the nicest guys you could ever talk to, and he is the man when it comes to 700R4 & 4L60's...
