Appreciate it. And don't worry. Fixing the safety switch is priority one. Car has been in the shop, so I haven't been able to look at the switch. It scares the hell out of me every time I crank it. I triple check the shifter every time.

As far as the switch goes... the ring around the base of the column... it turns by hand, and engages the safety switch. But moving the shifter did not turn the ring. What is supposed to be in there to make that happen? I hope that makes sense

A rod connected from the trans shift bracket to the steering column, that rod also looks the shifter when the ignition key is not in its place.

I bet that rod is missing. I'll have to check that after work. Thanks

could just be disconnected i think its held in place by a washer and cotter pin, i also think that the shift bracket has two plastic inserts/bushings to smooth things out.

I sure hope so. Still have lots of cleaning to do first.

Well the Buick is back at home. Paint turned out pretty good. Should be perfect after it cures and gets a good buff. I'm tickled for it to be drivable again.
Total price with parts and labor:
Under $1500. And more than one 12 pack:)
