700 vs. 200 converter

I'm sure this is a simple question for the experts. Are the 200R4 and 700R4 converters identical? Can one be used for either trans? thanks.
 
yes and no .the early 700 and and all 2004rs are ,but the late 700 is not .the early 700 and 200 are 27 spline and the late 7oo is a 30 spline.if you install a late 700 on a 2004r input shaft the vehicle wont move .
 
thanks Chris. I asked the question because a relative of mine just picked up a firebird with 700R4 and wants to put another converter in. I have a few around from my Buick 200R4 changes through the years but I wasn't sure if they would work for him. I think his 700 is original and would be an early version. we'll verify the splines before trying anything. I appreciate your help - he may contact you to check on new converter prices too.

i see you are in philly we have 2 distributorsin your area 1 is ben pilla on frankfort ave 215 332 1463 the other is ben pilla on street rd in feasterville 215 357 2131. 61st and passyunk haha.
