Will 275/60/15 drag radials fit on the stock 15x7 GN rims, without rubbing anything?? Any pics??

We're trying to decide between these or the 255/60/15 drag radials on this car. The car should trap in the mid-120's...

A 7" wheel is not optimum for a 275/60 but it will work just fine. I have ran that combo on at least 3 different cars with no problems.

I have the MT ET Radials 255/60/15's on stock T wheels. They fit perfect and work excellent. My 60 foots were 1.67 and 1.68 last night on a 12.0 car. The tires should handle a lot faster car.

This is what I am running now. 1.57 60'

The stock T/hot air wheels are 7 1/4 inches wide. I think that the 255/60 are gonna be a ok fit but the 275/60 that entirely too much tire for a 7 1/4 inch wheel.

I just spoke to a fellow drag racer yesterday and he told me that you don't want to go no less than 1 1/2 either way on wheel width VS tire width for best use of the contact patch at lower pressures. the wider 1 1/2 than the tire makes the tire a tad shorter and the 1 1/2 makes it a tad taller from his explaintion. I dunno if this applies to radials or not.

i just mounted a set of 255/60 on a set of 8 inch wheels and they fit good. the overall width of the tire incleading the sidewall is almot 10 3/4 inches. the tread width is 10 inches this was measure on the micket thompson drag radials. the wheels are 15x8 with a 3.5 inch back spacing.

i would stick with the 255/60 on the t wheels so you will not have run a real low tire pressure to keep the center on the tire from being blowed up. But the best fit is on a 8 inch wheels IMO

FWIW... The car is a '87 GN still running the oem '86-'87 GN wheels, not the "T" wheels.

I have a set of the 255/60/15's on stock "T" wheels and the fit is fine. I have a set of the 275/60/15's on 15x8 wheels, and they fit fine.

My question is about fitment of the 275/60/15's on the stock '86-'87 GN wheels.

TIA,

K.

Do you have any pics...??

K.

Why yes I do:D

This car went 10.70's with a best 60' of 1.49 with 100% stock susp. I have had 2 different 10 second cars with 275/60's on 7" wheels and one 11 second car with 275/60's

One thing to consider. Putting a 275 60 15 on a 7" wheel affects the contact patch. It pinches the tire and lessens the contact with the street making for less traction. Kind of defeats the purpose of the tire.

that is what i was tring to expalin in the above post too. i agree with ya

i have 275 60's on my stockers w/a 1/4 in spacer. they do slightly rub the frame but nothing that will harm any.

GN wheel's generally need a small spacer with 275's to keep them off the frame (.25" - .38" spacer). Only Nitto 275's which are smaller than everyone elses 275's will generally work without a spacer.

What size are the fronts in these photos? Can you email me a higher resolution/non-resized version?? ncturbos@yahoo.com

TIA,

K.

Those were 235 60 15 but now I have 225 60 15 and I like the look on both. Some guys are bothered by the backend being raised a little, but I like it and I figure it probably helps with transfering the weight to the rearend on acceleration.

I agree with Mickey,I have mine on a set of 9" rims with 4.5" backspacing and they look and fit fine.
