my BTO level 3 took a crap a couple months ago. chris @ CK sent me a new band and some new frictions and steels. i was scared to install them so i took it to a local trans shop. they said the trans was never built correctly in the first place because something was dragging and not releasing properly i donno exactly. but they installed the parts chris sent me, along with a new direct clutch drum, that was badly scortched. well here is the problem..

normal slow acceleration the car will NOT upshift to any gear without lifting throddle, than it snaps and shifts quickly.

under WOT accel the car will NOT shift 1-2 unless i lift. (went to 7100 rpm) but 2-3 it shifts right at 6500 under WOT, exactaly where i want it.

also there does not seem to be compression braking in any gear.

so the question is, is this all governor related? how do i get my 1-2 shift back at WOT and my low rpm shifting back too. Thanks a lot

could be a leak in the band apply circuit.install a pressure gage .this is the only way to nail it down.if you disconnect the tv cable and drive it easyEASY does it shift early at part thottle.if so adjust cable looser and verify that the governer spring didnt fly off.sticking tv upshift valve tv valve, shift valves.even if the v bdy was serviced this can happen after removing and re installing it due to band or other fried foods floating aroung in the oil.

by the numbers...

i disconnected the TV cable and drove as light as possible, 3000 rpm is the lowest speed i could get it to shift 1-2 or 2-3 it shifted 3-4 a little sooner but i dont care. so were getting close. i than connected it a few clicks loose, and it can shift as early as 3k again. but WOT still no 1-2 shift. it will shift at about 3/4 throddle, but not full. while driving (hard to watch) but i saw high pressures in 1st 250+ and dropping to 170 ish when i let off to go into 2nd.

so here are the readings.

Full TV P 225
Full TV R 270
Full TV N 225
Full TV 4 225
Full TV 3 225
Full TV 2 175
Full TV 1 280

Zero TV P 75
Zero TV R 135
Zero TV N 75
Zero TV 4 75
Zero TV 3 75
Zero TV 2 175
Zero TV 1 240

so whats next chris? Thanks again.
:D

taking it back in about half an hour to the trans shop. there is a leak in the band apply circuit. chris said it might be the servo seal. the trans guys are gonna check that. see how my 2nd gear pressure is 175 psi and 1st gear is 240-280? chris said 2nd should be the same as 1st, or at least close.

tranny guys are VERY confident the servo seal is not dammaged. where else could it be leaking? they cant pull the servo out because they will loose the band, and have to pull the trans again.

i found some pressure readings from last year..

Idle TV P 90, R 170, N 90, 4 90, 3 90, 2 210, 1st (t brake) 230

so now i have 240 psi in 1st and only 175 in 2nd at 0 TV so where is the 30-40 psi leaking?

?????? I think its time to find a new tranny shop.

Well for one you can pull the servo out without 'losing' the band. You can also pull the servo out without removing the tranny from the car.

the owner told me that there is a preload or something on OEM bands, so they dont move, but the aftermarket one could break loose if the servo is pulled and it wont beable to be put back in. is this total BS? they basically gave up and said nothing is wrong with the car, and they had it all day and DID NOT pull the servo to check the seal beacuse "the installer is confident that nothing is wrong with it." GRRR!! but does anyone know where else pressure could be leaking becides the servo if that is good seal? chris your phone wasnt ringing today at like 430- 500... maybe just me, ill try to call again tom.

Yes

In the atsg manual under high or low oil pressure the causes listed are

TV Cable misadjusted

TV Valve assembly damaged or leaking, lever unhooked or mispositioned, throttle valve or plunger valve binding

Pressure regulator valve binding

TV boost valve binding or wrong valve-causes low oil pressure only

Reverse boost valve binding

Manual Valve unhooked or mispositioned

Pressure relief valve ball missing or spring damaged

Pump slide stuck, seal damaged, airbleed orifice plugged

TV limit valve binding

Line bias valve binding in closed position

Control valve assembly and space plate .. incorrect orifices and passages

So as you can see theres alot of stuff there but if I had to guess from my limited experience your probably going to end up dropping the valve body and having to disassemble it and see if theres a stuck valve in there somewhere. I would doubt its anything in the pump since your other pressures are good. You can get the valve body out with the tranny in the car. One other thing you might try before that though is to disconnect the TV cable and pull on it about 20 times back and forth and see if that frees anything up. Then go through with resetting it to factory spec. Good luck. :(

trans shop went all through the vb and found nothing wrong. they pulled the trans today and are starting to dissasemble it. i hope they find something wrong with what they worked on before... what im worried about is them being like "we cant find anything wrong... you need to pay for us working on it again." so well see. i think the leak has to be there fault.. dont u?
